Frequently asked
The questions that come up at the farm gate, answered the same way we’d answer them there.
What is single-source honey?
Grocery-store honey is often a blend of many harvests, sometimes many countries, mixed to taste the same all year round. Ours is one meadow, one season, one beekeeper — bottled on its own and never mixed with another. It reads more like a wine card than a grocery label: when a harvest sells out it is gone until the bees make the next one, and the next one will not taste quite the same.
Is Jensen’s honey raw and unfiltered?
Yes. Raw, unfiltered, never blended, never heated — the way it is in the jar is the way it is in the hive. That is also why one jar can be paler or darker than the last. The bees decide that, not us.
Do you ship across the United States?
To the contiguous United States — the lower 48. Orders of $45 and over ship free; under that it is a flat $7, however many jars are in the box, and every subscription delivery ships free. Both sizes of honey are $45 or more, so honey always travels free. We do not ship to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, the US Virgin Islands, American Samoa or the Northern Mariana Islands, and there is no international shipping yet. The checkout tells you before it takes your money, not after — the whole of it is on the shipping page.
Why does raw honey crystallize?
Because it is real honey. Honey holds more sugar than it comfortably can, and over weeks or months some of that sugar settles back into crystals — faster in a cold kitchen, faster in some harvests than others. Nothing has gone wrong and nothing has spoiled. Stand the jar in warm water for a while and it will loosen; boiling it will not, so don’t. Honey that never sets at all has usually been heated hard enough to stop it.
